The 65 mpg Ford the U.S. Can't Have

So what's wrong with us anyways? To me, here is another story where the US is simply falling out of touch with the rest of the world... so to speak. I've had to travel both in Asia and Europe for the last few years and the look and performance of there cars have been much better than what is offered here. Looks like we get stuck with gas guzzling boxy looking cars while the rest of the world moves forward? Click here for the 65 mpg story Shouldn't diesel be cheaper than gas as it is overseas? Why is it so much more here in the US? I now this doesn't have anything to do with Tow Vehicles but fuel saving an better technology would help everyone including the RV industry.

RE: Renting out a TT

It's not what I want to do but the reason I was thinking about this is because no one is buying here. I have it at a pretty low price now and without loosing money no one is buying. I know that a few dealerships here are selling newer ones at rock bottom prices which is just a few 100 more than me. I can't beat unless I give it away. Plus gas prices here aren't helping here in So. Cal. Since I've been laid off I thought it would be a good way to pay it down and help with the finances? I don't know though???

Renting out a TT

I have my trailer up for sale but really would like to keep it. A friend from work has offered to rent it out and live in it but I have no idea what to charge? Anyone have a monthly charge suggestion or a website to get this type of info. The TT would go to a local site and not travel around. Thanks for any insight.

RE: 2007 Jayco 29 BHS

Just a couple of correction to the weights listed above. Those weights are for the G2 model, if your getting a 2007 model then the weights will be slightly lighter. I'm not sure what made the G2 heavier especially with the tongue weight but the 2007 tongue weight is 745 not 840 and the dry weight for the trailer is 5425 and not 5575. Both the G2 and original have a GVWR of 7500. My TT loaded for camping has been hovering around 7200 - 7300.

RE: 2007 Jayco 29 BHS

You could tow it. I have a Titan and have been towing our 29 BHS without any problems. Loaded it should be around 7500 lbs well within the tow rating. Just make sure you have the Nissan tow package, get a good WD hitch and hook the electric brakes up. Our kids loved it. The bunks come in handy. Unfortunately I have to sell mine too and it's currently on the market do to being laid off. Let me know if you any questions on the unit your looking at. Good Luck!

RE: Info please

Quality wise and better warrantee and of course personal choice I would say Jayco all the way. We've had no problems since we brought ours home. This and the interior was nicer than the Springdale when we were shopping. Your also right... the banks are sure handy too!

RE: Where do I get water?

Where ever you find fuel for the TV, you'll likely have access to potable water. That's a good point... maybe you can pull what your comfortable until the last station nearest where the dry camp is. Then fill up, you'll be heavy but at least you wont have to pull heavy that far.

Having to sell my TT

Well, I need to sell the TT. Not because of gas but I was laid off earlier this year, such is life... I've been camping since I was a kid, so this is a definite bummer. So the question to my fellow RV'ers who has sold a trailer or 2. What type of paperwork do I need to be concerned with? I still owe money so can anyone recommend what I need to do to make this a smooth as possible. Thanks!

RE: Grey tank not registering empty?

My gray works fine... My black is another story. I wouldn't say they're inaccurate it's just that sometimes a little piece of toilet paper or some other substance :E gets attached to the sensor. I usually spray through the toilet with RV Swivel Stiks you can buy from Wal-mart or Camping World and the sensor goes back to normal.

So I'm going to stay out of the other thread about Japanese trucks vs. American just because the whole thread is just plain dumb but here's a good read for all of you Titan and Ram owners... Looks like we could be cousins in a few years? I think what ever comes out of it it will be one h3ll of a truck! :) Chrysler Will Make Full Size Light Duty Truck for NissanChrysler Will Make Full Size Light Duty Truck for Nissan

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

I wouldn't blame it all on the oil companies. There are several reasons prices are up: 1) oil is not traded as a commodity - so lots of money is made before it even gets to a refinery. 2) the US dollar is very weak so countries we import crude from want more $'s per barrel. 3) people still fail to reduce their driving. If everyone would drive 10% less, it would have a big impact on the price. But of course, so many folks would be 'inconvenienced'. 4) lack of refining capability in the US. Yes - the big oil companies are making big profits - but it's not their fault. Not there fault? I would definitely blame the oil companies, with record profits coming at a time where we are all struggling doesn't make sense but that's corporate greed for you. Yes I know it cost a lot to refine but even with those bills they are still pulling in huge profits. Also, take a look at the pumps while your filling up. You'll also see whatever your State gas or diesel taxes are. In some places here in California you're getting taxed anywhere from 45 to 60+ cents per gallon, not sure what the diesel tax is but those taxes sure aren't helping!

RE: 55 MPH TT towing in California?!?!?!?!

If I am going 55MPH and everyone else is doing 70-75 I am gona get killed. The closing rate is too much. You're not going to "Get Killed" towing at 55 in California. I've towed I-5, I-80, Hwy 99, and other Hwys in NorCal for many years, and have yet to have been in a situation, or seen situations, where traffic overtaking you or others while towing down the road has caused an accident. Come on out to CA, tow at 55, and enjoy the scenery Get Killed...haha, why is everyone camping in a hurry anyways, pull 55, be safe, enjoy the drive! The campground will still be there.

RE: ~Post your campsite photos here~

Here's mine out at Santee lakes, CA last Thanksgiving. Newer section as you can see from the smaller trees but a great park. http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg35/R-d0g/Camping/TnTT.jpg

RE: High fuel prices cause me to downgrade TV

was not intended to start a flame war. it was just a joke. It may have been a joke but I was in Germany last year and you'll see this kind of setup all over the place. Very few trucks, TT's might be a little smaller but not a whole lot. I saw a lot of Saabs, VW, Peugeot, Audi's and Renault.

RE: Jayco 29bhs Maxistor

I have an 07 Jayco 29BHS but without the Maxistor door. I can tell you I kind of wished I had one. The smaller hatch door is really small IMO and even getting my tackle box out is difficult. I'd opt for the larger door.

RE: Is RV Net breaking again?

Breaking again would mean that at some point in time they had it fixed. I don't think they have gotten that far yet. This happens every day for me. If they can't handle the traffic flow and bandwidth they should hand the reins off to someone who can. Doesn't seem to be getting any better. Yup... exactly right and I thought it was just me. I usually just move on to something else but it is happening pretty regularly now.

RE: Southern Calif

Southern California is huge.....can you be more specific re: area? Below Santa Barbara to San Diego - there are MANY beach campgrounds so if you narrow it down a bit it will help. Good point... also if you want a private or State park. Some of the State Parks on the beach may have problems with your 35'er + tow vehicle in trying to maneuver inside. Good Luck!

RE: Clear Lake, CA

We stayed there back in 2006. Nice camp ground, a little diffulcult to get to. One thing I didn't like was the back to back layout. Luckly we had some nice neighbors. The sites were not exactly level but not to bad. easy pull through but watch the tree branches. I would camp there again. You might want to ask a moderator to move this post to the Campgrounds, Resorts and Attractions section that way you get more comments. Here is a link to the RV review site for Edgewater Resort & RV Park BTW- what beavis63 said, it is a little getto out there but the campground was much better area than Clear Lake that's a few miles away.
